BONDI PLAYS HOST TO THE BIGGEST CONCRETE EVENT IN THE
SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE FOR THE 5TH YEAR ROUND

Bondi Beach will play host for the fifth year running; BOWL-A-RAMA, the biggest concrete event in the
southern hemisphere, on Saturday 21st of February 2009. With a prize pool of US $30,000 the 2009 event
is set to be the biggest to date. In recognition of Bondi Beach Skate Park’s iconic status, the 2009 theme is
Del Mar Skate Ranch which played host to the best riders and the most legendary competitions during the
formative years of professional skateboarding.
“We get so many comments about Bowl-a-rama resembling the old competitions (Del Mar Skate Ranch)
where some of the most recognized skaters in the world cut their teeth (Steve Caballero, Kevin Staab, Pat
Ngoho and Christian Hosoi) …these skaters are the same skaters that have been and still are involved in
BOWL-A-RAMA” says Chad Ford, Director of BOWL-A-RAMA.
Joining the World Cup of Skating (WCSK8), Vans, EA Games SKATE 2 and Oakley have jumped on
board for 2009, ensuring some of the biggest names in skateboarding will be blazing it at Bondi. Bringing
it back to the shores of Oz is last year’s winner Bucky Lasek, as well as one of the all time greatest
skateboarding legends, Steve Cabellero!
Over 80 of the world’s top professional riders will also show their stuff on the day, including:
Bob Burnquist (Brazil), Rune Glifberg (Denmark), Daniel Cardone (Italy), Omar Hassan (US), Benji Galloway
(US), Corbin Harris (Australia), Chris Senn (US), Sergie Ventura (US), Kyle Berard (US), Renton Millar
(Australia), Jeff ‘Skunk’ Williams (Australia), Kevin Staab (US), Lester Kasai (US), Lance Mountain (US),
Colin Provost (US), Chris Cudlipp (Hawaii), Pat Ngoho (US), Sandro Diaz (Brazil) and Chris Miller (US).
With the perfect terrain and versatility for skaters from all over the world, combined with the caliber of riders
expected on the day and a total prize pot of US $30,000, skate fans will experience the most mind blowing
action of the year!
And 2009 is set to tip the scales in popularity with the latest ABS figures showing skateboarding at an all
time high among Australia’s youth, with over 31% of teens taking to the streets and concrete pools after
Over 5000 people are expected to descend onto BOWL-A-RAMA 09. The killer skate action will commence
at 11am Saturday 21st February with the finals wrapping at 6pm.
And this year Mt Dew will be introducing the ‘Do The Dew’ Junior street skate area all day with special guest judge Renton Millar
From 8pm: Vans, EA Games SKATE 2, Oakley, SDS, The Beach Road Hotel and Monkey Say are hosting
the award ceremony and after party (over 18’s only) at The Beach Road Hotel.
